The Shama’il al-Muhammadiyya of Imam al-Tirmidhi presents us detailed descriptions of the moral, physical and spiritual qualities of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. The perfections that Allah bestowed upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ encompass every aspect of his blessed being: his outward physical form, his senses, his internal form and his inner beauty. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is the most perfect embodiment of created beauty and form, and he is unsurpassed in his perfections. No one can rival or outstrip him in any laudable quality or trait. He knows Allah as He should be known. He fears Allah as He should be feared. He loves Allah as He should be loved. Understanding the Shama’il is absolutely critical to any proper understanding of Islam, for it details the qualities of the message-bearer, which fundamentally alters how we understand the message he brought.

Praise for the Shama'il

This is the Gold-Illuminated Hardback Premium Edition of the Maghazi – The earliest available work of Sīrah in existence that was previously lost for nearly 500 years.

This text is the first English translation of The Maghāzī of Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ by the eminent Tabi'i scholar Musa ibn 'Uqbah, the earliest biography of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ currently known to exist.

Until recently, no copies of The Maghāzī of Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ had been seen for over 400 years, and most scholars believed the text to be lost forever. Thus the good fortune of its reappearance cannot be overstated. The discovery of its manuscripts in the archives of the National Library of Tunisia by Dr. Muhammad Tabarani is a significant event, the like of which the Ummah may not see again for many years, if ever. Ninety-one folios were found, which together contain approximately three-quarters of the original text. We hope that the remaining parts may be found soon.

Renowned in his own time as a muhaddith and historian, Mūsā ibn ʿUqbah ranks as one of the first individuals to compile reports specifically related to the sīrah, the biography of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. More significant, however, is the fact that his Maghāzī (Expeditions) was acclaimed by his contemporaries and by scholars of later generations, as the most authentic work of its genre. Those who praised him and affirmed his trustworthiness include Imam Malik, Imam al-Shafi'i, and Imam ibn Hanbal:

“I recommend the Maghazi of the pious man Musa ibn ‘Uqbah because it is the most accurate of Maghazi works.”
— Imam Malik ibn Anas

"There is none from the Maghazi genre that is more authentic than his book despite its shortness, and it is void of what is mostly mentioned in books other than his."
— Imam Muhammad ibn Idris al-Shafi’i

“Hold tight to (Kitab) al-Maghazi by Ibn 'Uqbah because he is absolutely trustworthy.”
— Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal

“His trustworthiness is confirmed. And he narrated many ḥadīths.”
— Imām al-Dhahabī

“[The scholars] agreed upon his trustworthiness. Both al-Bukhārī and Muslim narrated his ḥadīths.” “His trustworthiness is confirmed. He was one of the junior Tabi‘īn.”
— Imām al-Nawawī

“He was a trustworthy jurist and authority in (the field of) Maghāzī.”
— Imām Ibn Ḥajar al-‘Asqalānī

Following its completion, The Maghāzī of Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ served as an authoritative source for many later works on the life of Allah's Messenger ﷺ.

A sub-genre within the field of Prophetic studies, the maghāzī literature covers the battles and military expeditions of the Prophetic era, and by extension, the biography of the Prophet ﷺ as well. The maghāzī literature is thus both historical and religious in its scope. What sets The Maghāzī of Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ apart, even among the works of maghāzī and sīrah, is the fact that its author was a muhaddith first and foremost, and as such, adhered to strict requirements for documentation of both narrators and narrations in his works. The result is that his Maghāzī is a work of history that is documented almost to the same standards as a work of hadith.

IGP's hardback edition of the The Maghāzī of Sayyidunā Muhammad ﷺ includes:

• Original Arabic and English translation of the manuscript text
• Introduction and history of the work
• Foreword with detailed discussion of the science of sīrah
• Footnotes to provide context and explanation, as well as the sources of the dozens of Qur'anic verses woven into the text
• Biography of the author

This book is a new translation of Imam al-Ghazali's Adab fi al-Din, a concise yet thorough guide to proper Islamic conduct and character in a wide range of life situations. While numerous works discuss adab - translated here as "etiquette and manners" - this text stands out for its practical approach, structured in the manner of a handbook for quick and easy reference when the need appears.

Al-Ghazali begins by outlining the essential principles that govern all interactions with other people and with oneself, and which every Muslim should strive to embody and cultivate within his or her life. He then proceeds to a discussion of adab with Allah, as the relationship with the Creator is at the heart of a Muslim’s character. The Imam details how one may cultivate reverence, humility, and mindfulness in this relationship, and provides practical advice regarding how to consistently remember Allāh, fulfill His commands, and show patience during life’s challenges.

The core of the book is a sort of practical manual of adab, and includes sections on such everyday issues as:

• The Adab of the Scholar, Student, Reciter of the Qur'an, Muhaddith, Khatib, and many other roles related to worship and seeking knowledge
• Adab of fasting, eating, drinking, giving and receiving charity, giving and receiving gifts, and of being wealthy or poor
• Adab of sleep, waking, being in public and in social gatherings, and other ordinary life situations
• Adab of husbands and wives, parents and children, and other relationships
• Adab of some common professions

Most individual sections occupy no more than one page, with some requiring only a short paragraph to cover the essential issues that guide one's approach to each scenario. The book then concludes with a discussion of universal adab, a general discussion that applies to many disparate areas of life.

Regarding the sources of our knowledge of adab, as well as its significance in the life of a believer, the Imam writes:

The most perfect and lofty character as well as the best and most splendid of actions is to have adab [good manners] as [explained by] the religion. It is for the believer to emulate the actions of the Lord of the Worlds, as well as the character of the prophets and messengers. Allah, the most High, has refined our manners through His exposition of the Quran as well as through His Prophet Muhammad ﷺ by commanding us to [adhere to] his sunna. [We owe Him] for this benevolence. He has also refined our manners through the companions, their successors, as well as the people of adab from amongst the believers, by obligating us to emulate them.

This is a text that the reader will want to keep within easy reach, and consult regularly for guidance on the many and varied situations that occur in one's life.

Futuwwah and Raising Males into Sacred Manhood concisely discusses the principles within futuwwah, or spiritual chivalry, that young men should strive to embody and should inculcate into our communities. While the virtues discusses in this text are not all exclusively related to young males becoming men, this book is tailored towards males, and the specific issues faced by males as they strive to grow into the path of manhood. Just as young women need their own spaces to learn from women how to become honorable sisters, young men require their own special places to instill in them the virtues of upright brothers.

The Islamic tradition calls for a revival of organized training relating to spiritual chivalry and sacred manhood - this is the task of the hour. There are beautiful and majestic qualities embodied by the Prophet s that he passed down to his family members and pious Companions. Those upright men were methodically raised up: they undertook rites of passage, and manly responsibilities which were placed upon them with expectations that they would be executed with excellence.

This book begins by establishing the linguistic and operational definitions of the Arabic word futuwwah, translated here as "spiritual chivalry." The text then discusses the essential virtues for developing healthy manhood, in a specific order of their priority in teaching. The Qur'anic verses, Prophetic narrations, and sayings of pious Companions and scholars on the subject of futuwwah are related with sound meaning, accompanied by meticulous citations in footnotes and endnotes.

In a world increasingly driven by materialism and immediate gratification, Heaven Explored: A Description of Jannah offers a glimpse into the divine promise that awaits the faithful. This beautiful work by Sayyid Muhammad b. 'Alawi al-Maliki, translated into English by Shaykh Ahmad Shaist, unveils the Islamic vision of Jannah, a realm beyond human imagination. By compiling the numerous vivid descriptions of Jannah in the Qur'an and Hadith, this text brings the reader on a profound journey, which instills hope and provides both solace and much-needed perspective.

In his inimitable style, the late Sayyid weaves together the different descriptions and discusses them both as reality and as metaphors for spiritual fulfillment and eternal closeness to Allah, providing a nuanced understanding of the afterlife that transcends literal interpretations. "What No Eye Has Seen," or as rendered in this translation, “Heaven Explored”, is a compelling read for anyone interested in acquainting themselves with the nature of Jannah for the believers. This book is more than an academic treatise; it is a journey towards understanding the divine promise that lies at the heart of a believer’s journey to Allah – the promise of a Paradise beyond the limits of human imagination, meeting the Beloved of Allah ﷺ by the Pond, and seeing Allah, the Exalted.

Heaven Explored: A Description of Jannah goes beyond theological exploration, presenting Paradise as both a future abode and a guiding principle for living a righteous, purposeful life. In this edition, Sayyid Muhammad Alawi al-Maliki’s insights are brought to life through Shaykh Ahmad Shaist's meticulous translation, making the work accessible to a global English-speaking audience. Concerning Divine Wisdom in the Creation of Man is a selected translation and commentary of Imam al-Ghazali's treatise on the human anatomy and physiology. In it, al-Ghazali masterfully provides the seeker of religious knowledge a window into Allah’s creativity through the Islamic study of anatomy.

The study of anatomy for the Muslim serves as a potential means to fulfill two distinct goals:

1. To increase one’s attachment to the Creator through a deeper appreciation of the details of His creation
2. Or to become a professional with knowledge of diseases and cures

The broad audience of medical students, physicians, healthcare professionals, as well as non-medical seekers of religious knowledge will appreciate the details of human anatomy described by Imam al-Ghazali through an Islamic lens. Readers will also recognize that this discussion, though accurate from the perspective of modern medicine, reflects a distinctly different paradigm from that of modern anatomy and physiology.

Imam al-Ghazali asserts that there is a spiritual component to the human being, and that every detail of human anatomy is representative of Allah's qudra, His power, and His wisdom. In this text, al-Ghazali describes these spiritual purposes alongside the physical anatomy, with the same level of clarity and precision.

This edition includes Dr. Kamran Riaz's meticulous English translation side-by-side with al-Ghazali's original Arabic text. The translation is followed by over 150 endnotes from Dr. Riaz and Shaykh Mohammed Amin Kholwadia.

Inner Dimensions from the Order of the Surahs in the Qur'an contains Imam al-Suyuti's unique exploration into the structure of the Book of Allah, and specifically the sequence of its chapters in its complete form, at the conclusion of its revelation to Allah's Final Messenger ﷺ. A consummate master of the Qur'anic sciences, Imam al-Suyuti delves deep into the various reasons behind the order of the chapters (Surahs) in the Qur'an, revealing layers of meaning and intricate interconnections across many levels of language, meanings, context, purpose, and more.

On the effort and research invested in this work, the al-Suyuti writes:

“…since few people have spoken on… this subject, the majority of this text is the result of my own contemplation and borne of my own investigation. However, if I do mention something that someone else has said, I explicitly mention its source, and I only mention that which is accepted, which no one has rejected.”

In this sense, this text feels quite personal, as it provides a glimpse into Imam's immense knowledge and capacious intellect. Imam al-Suyuti's superlative scholarship is unmistakable, as he draws on his knowledge Hadith, Tafsir, history, and the Arabic language to make an extraordinary range of connections and insights.

However, despite the obvious brilliance of its author, this work is also easily accessible to readers of all levels. It is meticulously organized to present a coherent flow of ideas and insight, that allows even beginning students to find benefit. The Surahs of the Qur'an are discussed in order, chapter by chapter, with the chapters themselves maintaining a consistent structure. Imam al-Suyuti provides detailed commentary on the placement of each Surah in relation to what comes before it and what will come after it, and what deeper meanings this particular arrangement might signify. His commentary is rich with references to Hadith, historical contexts, and linguistic analyses. Al-Suyuti also frequently quote the opinions and insights of great scholars of earlier generations, adding depth to the text, and situating his own analyses within the vast corpus of scholarship that came before him.

One of the most striking features of this book is Imam al-Suyuti's method of reflection. He does not merely present facts or traditional interpretations, but also engages in a deep, contemplative analysis that unveils some of the hidden wisdom within the Qur'an's structure. This approach is both scholarly and spiritual, making the work a gem of a read for all. The Imam’s reflections are presented in a manner that invites readers to join him in this contemplative journey, offering a personal and immersive experience of understanding the Qur'an.

Inner Dimensions from the Order of the Surahs in the Qur'an is a comprehensive guide for anyone seeking a deeper understanding of Allah's Final Revelation, and will be an invaluable resource for readers, students of Islamic studies, and anyone interested in understanding the Qur'an on a deeper level. Talut Dawood's translation is fluid, faithful to the original text, and retains the depth and subtleties of Imam al-Suyuti's reflections, making Imam al-Suyuti's profound insights accessible to a broader English-speaking audience. This bilingual edition features the original Arabic text and translation in parallel, allowing students who read Arabic to peruse the source text alongside the English.

The science of Taṣawwuf is the cornerstone of spirituality, and its practice guides the seeker toward sincerity, self-purification, and nearness to Allāh. This abridgment of Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq's The Principles of Taṣawwuf (Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf) presents the core principles of Tasawwuf in a systematic manner, with unparalleled clarity.

In this work, the illustrious author distills forty essential principles, or qawāʿid, from his larger work. Taken together, these forty principles allow the reader to gain a proper understanding of Taṣawwuf, and thus to navigate the intricate interplay of īmān, practice (ʿamal), and self-awareness. Although Taṣawwuf has often been misrepresented and misunderstood - in the author's time as well as our own - Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq helps us to situate this science in its proper context, in seamless connection with Islamic jurisprudence and theology. The text affirms unequivocally that true spiritual realization is only attainable through sound understanding of the Sharīʿah and ʿAqidah, and vice versa. Thus, true Islam is found in the holistic unity of outward adherence and inward sincerity.

Some key themes of this text include:

• The relationship between faith, jurisprudence, and spirituality
• The perils of extremism in worship and the necessity of balance in religious practice
• The conditions for sincerity in remembrance (dhikr), and the transformative power of seeking Allah through His remembrance
• The role of mentorship and the necessity of a guide on the spiritual path
• Humility, ethical conduct, and adherence to the prophetic way in dealing with oneself and others

In an era of spiritual confusion and material distraction, this text provides a framework to attain clarity, and to attain sincerity in faith while fully engaged with the practical realities of everyday life. Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf is as relevant today as it was centuries ago, and this abridgement makes it more accessible accessible to modern readers.

This new bilingual abridgment, with commentary based on the author's writings, renders the wisdom of Sheikh Aḥmad Zarrūq more accessible to a modern audience, preserving the essential framework of his thought while elegantly outlining and clarifying its nuances for contemporary readers.

Sidi Aḥmad Zarrūq

Shaykh Aḥmad Zarrūq (d. 899 AH / 1493 CE) was a renowned Moroccan scholar, jurist, and Sufi master from the city of Fez. Known as “Muṣliḥ al-Ṣūfiyyah” (The Reformer of the Sufis), his works combine Islamic jurisprudence (fiqh), theology (ʿaqīdah), and spirituality (taṣawwuf), emphasizing the harmony between outward practice and inward sincerity. A follower of the Mālikī school of jurisprudence, he authored over 40 works, with his Qawāʿid al-Taṣawwuf (Principles of Sufism) being among the most celebrated. He was a staunch advocate of adhering to the Qurʾān, Sunnah, and early Islamic tradition, while warning against innovations and excesses in spirituality.
